Research participation

Help shape the future of ageing research.

Many of the advances in dementia care, healthy ageing, falls prevention and aged care have been made possible because people chose to participate in research.

We work closely with older people, people living with dementia, family members and carers to ensure research reflects the experiences and priorities of those most affected. Below you will find current opportunities to participate in research studies.

Australia-Wide Dementia and Trauma Research Study

Understanding the impact of trauma on people living with dementia

Researchers at NARI are conducting a study exploring how past trauma may affect people living with dementia, memory loss or cognitive impairment, and how these experiences may influence care, wellbeing and support needs. We are seeking participants from across Australia who are:

  • Living with dementia, memory loss or thinking difficulties and have experienced trauma; or
  • Current or former carers of a person living with dementia, memory loss or thinking difficulties who has experienced trauma.

Participation will involve a one-on-one interview (up to 60 minutes long) that can be conducted via video call or in-person. Your eligibility will be confirmed via a brief phone call or email, and an interview will be arranged at a time that suits you.

Note: In-person interviews will only be available to those living in Victoria.

Befriending with GENIE

Supporting social connection and reducing loneliness

NARI is recruiting participants for an eight-week community program called Befriending with GENIE, designed to strengthen social connections and improve access to practical support and resources. We are currently seeking participants from Chinese communities living in Victoria who speak Cantonese or Mandarin and who:

  • Have memory concerns, cognitive impairment or a diagnosis of dementia; or
  • Provide care or support to someone living with dementia or memory difficulties.

This research aims to better understand how social connection and community support can contribute to wellbeing and quality of life for people affected by dementia and their carers.

Calling all Victorians from Chinese backgrounds! Are you interested in reducing loneliness and increasing social support?
